Wiki's have become popular with the establisment of the Wikipedia. The online encyclopedia which can be editted by anybody. For scholar used to the rigid structure of editors and peer review perhaps a touch too much freedom. The scholarly wikipedia is the Scholarpedia.

Wiki Software is becoming a popular tool to share and collaborate in a number of fields.
